About Friend's House Korean
Family Owned - Korean Comfort Food - All are welcomed!
Friend's House Korean is a korean restaurant in San Diego, California. It is listed at 4647 Convoy St, San Diego, CA 92111, which places it among the local businesses of San Diego that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as korean barbecue restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Diego, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 amβ9:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (858) 292-0499. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is friendshouserestaurant.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Its Google rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 702 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.
San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Diego is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

We were excited to try this restaurant because we love Korean food, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. We ordered the kimchi jjigae and the galbitang. The kimchi jjigae didn't taste like the traditional version we're used to. It had a strong tomato sauce-like flavor, and my husband couldn't even finish the soup. The tofu in it also tasted off, almost rotten, which made us uncomfortable. The banchan selection was good, and ordering from the tablet was easy and convenient. I also want to give credit to our waitress, she was attentive, friendly, and checked on us throughout our meal. Unfortunately, despite the good service, the food was not what we expected, and based on our experience, we wouldn't dine here again.

Iβve decided that Iβll be going back to Friendβs House Korean because their food is amazing. The flavors are bold and delicious. Aside from the food, the service was great from the busboy to our server, and to the lady (owner?) who wished us well as we left the restaurant. The ambiance was great. It felt like I was in a small Korean village restaurant enjoying local cuisine. While the food, service, and ambiance were great, the parking situation is brutal. It is a small lot shared with other businesses in the plaza and spaces can be tight for a truck or SUV. The key here is patience or arrive early. We made it before our reservation and Iβm so glad we got a head start since I knew we would be on Convoy (iykyk). Overall, they really went the extra mile to accommodate a reservation for our large party and their service was above and beyond. Kudos to their team. And their dishes are worth coming back to. I especially enjoyed their Hot Stone Bibimbap and Tofu Soup (Soon Dubu) here, as well as their Galbi Short Ribs. I hope to be back again soon!

Really happy that there was no wait time on a Friday night at 7:00 p.m.. place also had quite a nice aesthetic and we got a table under outdoor space. Food was actually pretty good and service was also decently fast. Kimchi pancake was extremely large and we certainly appreciate that! Definitely good value for money there. Flavor was also exceptional. It was soft and light and had that kimchi flavor but wasn't too overpoweringly strong either. It was fairly oily though so I had to press out some of that oil using paper towels. Spicy chicken entree item was really nice. Not too spicy and it also had some veggies in there which I appreciate. Sauce itself was delicious and I think the only downside is that there was not as many large pieces of chicken so it was hard to tell what was chicken and what was rice cakes. Friend and husband definitely enjoyed the beef bulgogi. I only tasted a little and it was definitely good. I was really excited about the Hot Stone Bibimbap, but it didn't deliver as much. Rice on the side was fairly crispy which was nice, but overall I think it was missing a little something. The Bibimbap sauce they gave on the side was a 10/10 though!

Good banchan. The tofu stew was alright and I while the bulgogi was not bad, I have definitely had better. It of course leaves you feeling quite gassy, but that is expected for a restaurant like this. Good food, Iβd come back

After 5 years, I finally tried Korean food again at this restaurant. I ordered the short rib plate with dumplings, salad, and rice, while my husband went for the spicy chicken with rice and Korean beer. Of course, they served us plenty of banchan (side dishes) as appetizers! The place has a nice vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. It wasnβt too busy, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth it for our dinnerβso happy to eat here again.
